Aya Academy

Our education and research arm — training the next generation of clinicians, keeping our own staff current, and contributing to the evidence base in women’s and children’s health.

What we run

A teaching hospital, not just a treating one

Life support courses

Accredited resuscitation training for clinical staff and visiting practitioners — basic and advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, and obstetric emergency drills run on our own wards rather than in a classroom.

Residency training — SCFHS accredited

A residency programme accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, with structured rotations, supervised operating and clinic lists, and consultant-led teaching throughout.

Research

Clinical research in obstetrics, assisted reproduction and neonatal care — audit, outcome registries and collaborative studies, so that what we do here is measured rather than assumed.

IVF Fellowship Programme — SCFHS accredited

A subspecialty fellowship in reproductive medicine and assisted conception, accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, trained inside our own embryology laboratory and fertility clinics.

Life support

Training that happens where the emergency would

Resuscitation skills decay within months of a course. Aya Academy runs its life support programme on the wards and in the delivery suites themselves, with the equipment staff actually use, so that the drill matches the room.

  • Basic and advanced life support certification
  • Neonatal resuscitation for delivery and neonatal unit staff
  • Obstetric emergency drills — haemorrhage, eclampsia, shoulder dystocia
  • Refresher cycles, so certification does not lapse quietly

Fellowship

IVF Fellowship Programme

A subspecialty fellowship in reproductive medicine and assisted conception, accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

Reproductive medicine is learned at a microscope and in a scanning room, not from a syllabus. Fellows train inside our own embryology laboratory and fertility clinics, following patients through a complete cycle rather than rotating past one stage of it.

  • Ovarian stimulation protocols, monitoring and dose adjustment
  • Ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer
  • Laboratory time — ICSI, culture, grading and vitrification
  • Male factor assessment and surgical sperm retrieval
  • Recurrent implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage
  • Counselling, consent and the ethics of assisted reproduction

Residency

SCFHS-accredited training

Accreditation by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties is what separates a job from a training post. It means the rotations, the supervision and the assessment are all externally specified and inspected.

What a resident gets here

  • Structured rotations across obstetrics, gynaecology, fertility and neonatal care
  • Supervised operating and clinic lists from early in the programme
  • Weekly consultant-led teaching, journal club and morbidity review
  • A named supervisor and documented assessment against SCFHS competencies

Why a small hospital suits training

In a large centre a resident can spend a year watching. Aya is deliberately small, so trainees are in theatre and in clinic rather than at the back of a crowd — with a consultant beside them, not down the corridor.

The same is true of the fertility unit, where residents see a full cycle from consultation to transfer rather than one isolated step.

Research

Measured, not assumed

A hospital that does not measure its own results cannot improve them. Our research programme exists first to hold Aya to account, and second to contribute to the wider field.

Outcome registries

Delivery, neonatal and IVF outcomes recorded prospectively, so our own figures come from data rather than impression.

Clinical audit

Regular audit against national and international standards, with the loop closed — changed practice, then re-audit.

Collaborative studies

Participation in multi-centre work in obstetrics, assisted reproduction and neonatal medicine, with academic partners in the Kingdom and abroad.
